We are raising funds to acquire the historic Swindall Tourist Inn — not for Afri-Soul, but for the community itself. This is an act of cultural reclamation: ensuring that this landmark of African American history in Phoenix is protected, preserved, and passed on as a lasting legacy for generations to come.
Preserve history: The Swindall Tourist Inn is one of Arizona's last surviving African American landmarks from the Jim Crow era — a safe haven for Black travelers during segregation.
Build community wealth: Acquiring this property through community ownership means it will never be lost to redevelopment. It becomes a permanent asset — owned by and for the people of Phoenix.
Leave a legacy:Once restored, the Inn will become a living museum, cultural education center, and gathering space — a hub for arts, culture, and intergenerational learning in the heart of Phoenix.
